Britt + Sam – 7/13/19 CA State Beach Wedding – Cardiff Reef
Britt & Sam had inquired with Megan Joy Events through Wedding Wire but then we never heard back from them. It wasn’t until three weeks before their wedding that they followed up saying things fell through with their coordinator and they could use some help with planning. Of course we jumped right in and got to work.
For the last 52 years Brittany’s family, starting with her grand parents had come to San Diego every summer to camp for a week at San Elijo State Beach in Carlsbad. Brittany figured this would be the perfect place and time for her and Sam to get married.
Their original location was Tower 11 — Cardiff Seaside State Beach. But when they flew into SD, there happened to be a full moon and the tide had pulled the water completely past the beach and into the parking lot. Two days before their wedding, they moved the location to Tower 13 — Cardiff Reef State Beach. For this location, there was no parking. This created a bit of a mess– I’ll get to that later 🙂
Britt & Sam had a vision for laid back fluid wedding where cocktail hour & reception shared the same space, where people lounged of rugs and carpets, where there was NOT enough tables to seat everyone so people had to stand around, sit in the lounge, play lawn games, etc. She also secured bonfire pits to arrive with s’mores! For florals, her sister in law created these, her friend was the videographer, her other friend was the MC, etc. So this was a lot of a DIY wedding where friends and family came together to put it all together.
Wonder Event Rentals brought in the tables, chairs, lounges, umbrellas, and market lighting. Brittany had her cousins help unload and set up. The cousins were also in charge of setting up the lawn games and volleyball court.
The wedding all came together beautifully– until the end of the night. Since there was no parking, most guests ubered to the location. By the end of the wedding, most guests had been drinking and wanted to continue the party at the bar across the street. These family members who helped set up, didn’t want to have to think about clean up. None of them had cars on site to pack up the games, remaining alcohol, flowers, gifts, etc. A few people ubered to their campsite and drove their car back down to gather everything that remained. This is why it is always better to hire professionals who are prepared for the tear down and clean up of an event!
Things to learn from this event — venues with parking are preferred. As are professionals who set up their stuff and then clean it up.
